Looking To See What You Guys Think Of This Diamond

Recommended Posts

A few unusual cutting choices (shallow crown angle but a smallish table, so decent crown height; shortish star and lower girdles), and an unusual combination of colour and clarity. No red flags - I'm sure it's a nice stone - but an uncommon choice. Is this what you want? How did you land on this one?

Price is right in the middle of similarly graded stones offered by a few commercially aggressive internet-based sellers: http://www.diamondreview.com/diamonds/?sortOrder=price&sortDesc=1&fShape=Rnd&fCaratLo=1.50&fCaratHi=1.55&fColorLo=J&fColorHi=J&fClarityLo=VVS1&fClarityHi=VVS1&fCutLo=exc&fCutHi=exc&fDepthLo=50.0&fDepthHi=80.0&fTableLo=40.0&fTableHi=80.0&fSymLo=&fSymHi=poor&fPolLo=&fPolHi=poor&fCulLo=&fCulHi=vlarge&fFlrLo=&fFlrHi=vstrong&fPriceLo=0&fPriceHi=1000000&fLabGIA=1&fLabAGS=1

The color is just a touch out of the norm but it's the clarity/color combination that's a bit peculiar.  VVS1 and VS2 are visibly identical and it'll shave your price by $1500 easy.  Since price and size are your driving issues, that seems like an easy one.  Coming under budget should be no problem but if you want to bump up the color because it worries you, try dropping the clarity a few notches.  You may also want to look at a size to just BELOW 1.50.  There's a definite premium that comes at that weight point.
