Which One Is Better?

Recommended Posts

Rock 1
GIA = 6175397525 (Measurements 6.46 - 6.49 x 4.02 mm)

Rock 2
GIA =  6162545769 (Measurements  6.54 - 6.58 x 3.97 mm)

Both are G, SI2, 3 EX + None and 1.03 carat

Will Rock 2 looks like larger?
Rick 2 price is cheaper than rock 1. Is that rock a value buy?

Not by much, and probably not visibly unless both stones are right next to each other. It will also depend on how you are going to set the diamond.

Unlikely. Bear in mind that there are two significant drivers of price here:

1) The details of the cut. Based on which, I prefer stone 1 (at least on paper), but others may hold a different view.

2) The visibility of the inclusions. Of which we know very little, but crystals are generally less benign than feathers.

I may be completely wrong, but I suspect that stone #2 has inclusions that are more easily visible - and possibly even obvious - where stone #1 has not.

Thanks,

How about compare to another rock 3 :

GIA = 2161096068
H, SI1, 1.02 car, 3EX, none

Rock 3 is a little bit more expensive than rock 1 (GIA = 6175397525)

Rock 3 looks not so clear than Rock 1 and is one color lower than rock 1.

The cutting of rock 1 and rock 3 seem to be nearly the same....

Hmm. Even though #3 is almost the same, I still like #1 better as far as proportions go. The big issue is visibility of the inclusions - the plots on the report provide NO guidance as to visibility; they only tell you what is there and roughly where the inclusions are relative to each other.

350 or so listed here for prices between $7400 and a shade under $4000. http://www.diamondreview.com/diamonds/?sortOrder=price&sortDesc=1&fShape=Rnd&fCaratLo=1.00&fCaratHi=1.10&fColorLo=G&fColorHi=G&fClarityLo=SI2&fClarityHi=SI2&fCutLo=exc&fCutHi=exc&fDepthLo=50.0&fDepthHi=80.0&fTableLo=40.0&fTableHi=80.0&fSymLo=ideal&fSymHi=exc&fPolLo=ideal&fPolHi=exc&fCulLo=&fCulHi=vlarge&fFlrLo=none&fFlrHi=none&fPriceLo=0&fPriceHi=999900&fLabGIA=1&fLabAGS=1&adv=1

Reason for the differences in price?

1. Visibility of inclusions. Some are totally invisible, some are outright nasty.

2. Details of cut. Not all GIA XXX look the same, and some looks are more popular (and expensive) than others.

The one I bought will need some careful inspection using the magnifying glass to see the two feather....so I will assume the price will be higher

Could I kindly seek for your advise, since I can not decide between the two diamonds which are very similar:

1. carat: 1.13; color: i; clarity si1; cut: very good

2. carat: 1.12; color: j; clarity vs1; cut: very good

bothe of them are with GIA certificates and with the same price.  As you can see the choice that has to be made is whether to prioritize on color on or clarity.  pls advise.

thank you very much!
