Why No Diagram Of Inclusions On Gia Certs?

Recommended Posts

Recently many gia certs are not including a diagram of inclusions. Isn't it important to know where the flaws are even in VS diamonds?

Thanks,

Ann

GIA offers several different services and not all reports include the plotting diagram. Yes, I would find it useful as a shopper but apparently many people don't. The 'dossier', which is the one with no plot is a little bit cheaper and these savings are probably being passed on to you. The solution is simple enough. If you find the data useful, shop between stones that have the full report. If you've got one that you really want that doesn't have a plot, you can have your own grader to do it for you, you can have the dealer do it if they're willing, or you can buy an 'upgrade' from GIA for a few dozen dollars.

GIA has two types of reports:

1. Full report with diagram

2. Dossier-no diagram.

The dossier is less expensive and manufacturers/wholesalers do opt for this report.

If you're considering a diamond that has a GIA Dossier report, ask the Vendor to provide you with a 10X photo.

IOO, plotted diagrams have limited utility and may even confuse you as they are one-dimensional and don't provide the exact location, size, or color of the inclusion(s).

It looks like you may be looking at diaimonds with a dossier lab report which won't have a plot but a laser inscription instead. Lots of times these lab reports are on stones less than 1.00 ct. weight. These lab reports cost less than a full report.

For those that want to know the truth about diamonds, just ask.
