How Can I Tell

Recommended Posts

HI there,

I am getting married in August and my mother gave me a ring that was my Grandmothers. The ring is a vintage looking three stone ring. The center stone looks like it was dropped and a significant piece is chipped off. The setting itself looks as if it may be white gold but the band looks as if it may have been replaced due to age. Is there a way that I can tell if this item is real or not? I looked at the underside of the ring and compared it to the underside of my Mothers own engagement ring and they are set the same.

Any suggestions wouldbe great. I do plan on taking it to a jeweler but thought maybe there would be a way for me to know before I take it.

Most jewelers can tell you if a stone is a diamond or not and will be happy to do so for free. It's not difficult but it does take a little bit of practice. To really learn about what you have, seek out a professional appraisal.
