The first thing to do when considering whether to rely on a grading report is to consider the merits of the lab. The default answer is no, which is an easy enough call to make but it’s actually worse than that. If you have reason to believe that the lab is BS, then you have reason to believe that the dealer is trying to get you to rely on something that they know to be false. This tells you more about the dealer than it does about the diamond.

 

This leads to the second part. You are evaluating the dealer every bit as much as you are evaluating the stone. Ask THEM to defend the accuracy of their chosen lab. If they can't or won't do it, don't just hold it against the lab, hold it against the dealer.
