Diamond Color

HI everyone,

casarezk, natural pink diamonds come in a rainbow of shades!

Here's a very light one- GIA graded this one "Natural Faint Pink"

Here's a pink which is one shade deeper. GIA called it "Natural Light pink"

Moving deeper in shade, we have "Fancy Light Pink"

For wacko money, you can find "Fancy Intense Pink"

then there are the "Combo colors" ( my term)

These include shades with brown- which softens the price some

Here's a Diamond GIA called "Fancy Light Pinkish Brown"

Here's one that has some Orange- GIA called it "Fancy Light Orangy Pink"

Orange has a neutral effect on price- it could make the diamond worth less if the hues was unattractive.

The most ...natural combos are the Pink/Purples, or Purple/ Pinks.

These are apt to be as stratospheric in price as pure pinks- if not more so.

Here's a "Fancy Light Pinkish Purple"

Here's a diamond GIA called "Fancy Intense Purple-Pink"- extremely vibrant where lighter pinks are more subtle.

Hope this helps!

Hi all, since we are on the topic of lovely pink diamonds what is their cost premium over say white round diamonds? I know this is kind of generalising but is the cost relationship linear?

For example say a 0.5ct white round is $x then is the 0.5ct pink round $3x or $2.5x? Thx :D

Great question dchoy!

It's really not possible to make a linear scale- for either end. Half carat colorless diamonds range in price from $100-$100,000

Of course, pinks occupy many of the "stratospheric" price positions

Here's a pink one graded "Fancy Light Purplish Pink Si2 by GIA

This diamond, loose, was about $10,500.

A D/Internally Flawless .51 Cushion would likely be no more than $3000

Thx for the replies all. I will take it that they are expontentially expensive haha but I am still going to consider them as an option to accompany my melee of white diamonds. Great pics David & Webgal its not fair that you can read my mind :P

Could you pls tell me what you meant by "micro set rings" as compared to the norm? At present I like the idea of channel set for melee :D

Here are some examples of micro set rings. It is a center diamond with a "frame" of smaller diamonds (melee) surrounding it. This looks especially nice when you have a colored diamond center and the contrast of the white diamond melee (pronouncec MEL-eee). Or visa versa.

The one at the top left is a white center and pink melee around it.
