I feel mislead.

I purchased a pair of diamond earrings. The jeweler told me the color was G. clarity VS-1. I did not receive the paperwork when I purchased the earrings. They were going to "mail it to me." Well, I never recieved the paperwork for the diamond and started to get curious about the earrings true value. When I bought them they said they were worth 900.00 more than what I paid, they had written that on the receipt. Well, I got the appraisal. the appraisal did come in slightly more than what I paid, but not as much as the jeweler told me. The color and clarity were not what they told me. It is an I color and SI-2. Is their anyone I can complain too. I feel mislead. I am tired of shady, untrustworthy businesses.

Thank you,

Kristine

Hi Kristine,

I am sorry that you had a bad experience.

A sellers appraisal or 'grading' of a stone is generally worth about as much as the paper it is written on as they tend to be self serving. The best vendors do not provide appraisal 'certificates' but rather encourage the use of an independent appraiser. Luckily, you were wise enough to do this on your own.

When buying valueable items like diamonds it is always good to do a little research and focus your search on stones that are graded by reputable gemological labs such as the GIA or the AGS. Some vendors will offer additional information in the way of actual images and additional cut information to assure you that you are getting what you pay for.

I would recommend that you contact the seller and explain that you would like to return your purchase for a full refund. Then do a little research and find someone you are comfortable working with.

I hope it all works out for you.
