Is it something wrong with this diamond?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am looking at this D IF 1.25 carat diamond but don't know if those white spots are the reflection of the light or the problem of the diamond itself.  Please help me out.  The pictures are enclosed.

Thank you!

Best Regards,

Kit

Hi Kit, welcome to Diamond Review!

Those seem to be dust/cleaning fluid residuals. The diamond was not well cleaned/dried before being photographed.

This said - who is calling it "D - IF"? Is there a lab report somewhere?

GIA.  But I don't have the lab report.  Thx for telling me.  They should fully cleaned and dried the diamond before taking the diamond photo.

GIA is good - don't worry about the lab report, but make sure you see it and verify it. And if you have any reason not to trust the vendor 100%, get it checked. An independent appraisal costs less than 1% of what you are about to spend... and it can save you a lot of headaches (not to mention probably being required for insurance purposes anyway).

Please try this dot test: On a piece of white paper, draw a small dot with a pen, then set the stone over the center of the dot. Take a close look at it. If your stone isn't a diamond, it will reflect in a circular pattern. A true diamond will not allow you to see the dot.

How is this relevant to the OP's question? (And the dot test is not a reliable test anyway)
