Hi my daughter is turning 21. I would like to buy her some diamond earrings. Unfortunately I tend to be a bit of a snob when it comes to Diamonds. I want the best for the lowest price, what a surprise LOL. I'm looking for something in the half carat total weight range. I don't want to spend more than $325. Of course I want them to be as colorless as possible with as few inclusions as possible. Can anyone suggest where to go? I'm so confused with these lab-created diamonds It's extremely hard to tell online especially when the seller is trying to be manipulative. Please help she is the sweetest behind this most generous young lady and I am so proud of her. Life is never easy but this poor kid has been through a lot and she deserves something special. It's been particularly difficult because she's gained a little weight and is very self-conscious. I don't want her to feel like she like jewelry because it was the only option. Any suggestions?

I don't think you'll find any 1/2 cttw pair for $325 or less, never mind a nice pair.

1/3 cttw is within range if shopping online, but you'll get a pair of highly included (I1-I2) stones - they can still look nice, but that requires careful choice, and this probably means you having to go somewhere local to see the stones, which is likely to be more expensive than pure online retailing. Please bear in mind that even at 1/3 cttw you are at the absolute bottom of the market - which in turn means not only not very colourless or clear stones (and possibly indifferently cut), but also metalwork which is likely to be made cheaply and possibly in a way that is fragile/not durable.

This is where I am getting confused - what are you referring to? Colourless "lab-created diamonds" are not significantly cheaper than natural ones at the moment, and they are actually not that easy to find, since only a handful of manufacturers exist. If you are speaking of diamonds simulants (i.e. stones that look like diamond, but are not - for example CZ), then prices are much lower, and $325 for a decent set of 1/2 cttw or even 1 cttw studs is easily within reach - however this is also where manipulation or marketing takes its toll.

If this (i.e. CZ) is what you are considering, then do yourself a favour and 1. do not call it "diamond" but cubic zirconia - this makes it clear to anybody what you are shopping for, and 2. avoid any vendor that does so - especially if they try to imply that what they sell is not CZ and it is somewhat more similar to diamond.
