  1. I know I’m asking a question that most people either don’t know how to answer or don’t want too for obvious reasons. If discussing this is bothersome or intrusive to anybody’s business I apologize, and completely understand and encourage going PM to discuss this matter. I’m looking to know how to photograph diamonds loose with superb quality, and consistency. Information I would like to discuss: The type of camera, light box, artificial lighting, natural lighting, background colors and materials. How you hold the stone and photograph it at the same time, and how all these things are used interchangeably to get the best possible image/images.

  7. What is the best way to sort melee diamonds of all colors, clarity and sizes? For example if I extract diamonds (breakouts) using the aqua regia method of refining. My question is once I sort all the whitish-appearing stones including diamonds, cubic zirconium, moissanite, from the batch what is the best way to extract only diamonds from a parcel that may have 2500-5000 carats in total, without the use of optical or thermal identification methods? P.S. I have heard of a chemical solution that separates moissanite: based on density. Is this the best option? I am looking for the most efficient and cost effective way of sorting high volume melees that will have (diamonds, CZ, moissanite) in the batch. Your thoughts.... Regards Ron

    Opinion Needed 1.5

nothing wrong with a simple: (below) that's cool too! 57/34.5 15 40.6/61.5 none thin to medium 50/80

    Opinion Needed 1.5

FWIW: Out of the two I would go with the first one. The 59% over 60.1% - Will be bright (I love brightness) only second to transparency. (ice cold water)! Davide’s analogy!! Nice one Davide… The 60.1% TD will allow for a nice spread without sacrificing any optics/performance. FWIW2: It’s also very close to a 60/60 (one of my fav’s) in regards to T&D – IMHO *The angles work well here!

Comparing Two Oval Diamonds Just Over 1 Carat

I would also add: decide who to trust, because opinions are more like eyes than noses (everybody's got at least two). Unless your a cyclops shark...lol
  11. Furthermore I would suspect that most if not all; highly skilled, well trained gemologists cannot tell the difference between VVS1 and VVS2 definitively using a 10x loupe only. Conservatively the best grade I ever give large diamonds 1+ carater and more without a microscope is VS1. Pushing it further is just soft…IMO FWIW: Unless it’s made by an important marker like VCA, Cartier, Tiffany, Webb, Buccellati, Heyman, etc…and the stones are “diamond melee†I can go VS/ VVS –which is standard catalog/descriptor practice. Regards R.K.
  12. You, as a normal person wearing jewelry will never be able to distinguish the difference between FL and IF when the stone is set on your finger. ....and either would I or anybody else on here.
  13. Simple question. Never seen that “Not Potential†before. What does it mean?
  14. It looks like the prelim GIA report was added by accident. Sorry for all the back and forth.
  15. South Florida Maven on eBay is pretty big. There pics are always pretty bad....
  16. On the prelim: I counted 17 issues. On the actual GIA/VS1 plot 3. Composed of 2 chips 1 extra facet. WOW P.S. Def a mistake to list the prelim doc on eBay.
  17. FWIW: The GIA Small document: So this is a diamond cutters or diamond dealers, prelim report that shows everything internally regardless if it affects the clarity grade or not? Does this come with all certs, or do you have to request one? Just curious: Never got two reports from GIA; (Prelim & Actual) Is this a new feature?
  18. Thank you all. Got it. The images are so bad on eBay. (I was confused) The plot on the full report looks spoltless. Only When you go to the GIA website, and zoom in with your mobile device, can you see 2 chips, and 1 extra facet. Hence VS1
  19. Even though its dated 3/27/17 on both? I'm still confused. Which one is accurate to the current stones clarity issues? the clean plot or dirty one? I presume clean. But even then VS1 should not be IF clean? The full report/ shows and IF plot. I think....
  20. I think I understand what your saying Barry, but for clarity. How can the VS1 primary be removed, when there are so many illustrated? IF? I can understand 1 small inclusion near the edge, away from the interior.
  21. The plot on the smaller (VS1, No Potential) report looks like there is a lot of little inclusions. The plot on the larger full/report looks clean? What's up with that?

My preference on a RBC: is a slightly lower crown and slightly larger table which typically means the diamond will be comparatively brighter, with a little less fire like Davide described above. Specs: I like 57% over 34.5°
