My diamond engagement ring has 2 tiny black spots inside the diamond. When I asked a jeweler, she said that those dots were carbon marks and that every diamond has them. Does this sound right, and what are carbon marks? Also, someone said that they are dirt spots from when the diamond was pulled from the ground. What could the truth be????????

More than likely they are small crystals. They may appear dark in nature due to the specific gravity of the crystal. Most often they are garnet crystals and they appear darker because of the density of the material.
Sometimes you can put a light under your stone and see that the dark crystals are acutally red, like a garnet.
It is the most common crystal inclusion in diamond often mistaken for carbon.
