Hi,

What is the general perception of Russian cut diamonds as opposed to other cut diamonds? Ultimately it all depends on how well a diamond is cut to determine its value obviously, but is there a caveat about Russian cut diamonds one must be aware of?

Will GIA grade such a cut? Thanks!

Russian cut diamonds are simply diamonds cut in Russia.
GIA will grade the diamond, but they don't put all the cut criteria on the lab report. If you want the diamond graded for cut and clarity and color you could send it to the AGS laboratory.

Russian diamonds used to be known as having the best cut!,Since the russian gov't has become "democratic"many private sector companies are mfg.diamonds there ,therfore not really insisiting on perfect cut as loss of weight is involved and the private sector is there to make money, whereas the russian gov't didnot care how much they lost of the weight from the rough as long as it was a perfect make!.
the G.I.A will grade any real diamond without knowing or disclosing where it came from ,they just give the criterias in details of the make, color, and clarity.
