Eight yrs ago my husband bought my gold wedding band from one jeweler and a diamond from a second jeweler, who mounted it. Today I went to the first jeweler to look at platinum bands in hopes of trading in my original band. After choosing a new band, the first jeweler said he needed to look at the condition of my princess cut diamond to determine whether or not it was in good condition b/c otherwise he may not be able to mount it. In front of me he pulled back the prongs and the diamond gently fell out. We looked at it under a microscope and discovered that two of the corners were chipped! The first jeweler told me that the damage had happened during the mounting performed by the second jeweler and he cannot re-mount. This makes sense now b/c setting always looked a little off to me. I wonder if this is due to the second jeweler having to compensate for the chipped corners. Do I have any rights/recourse with jeweler who sold us the diamond and mounted it? The diamond was not insured during the mounting process. Thanks.
Chipped diamond! I need advice please!

If it wasn't insured, you could have a problem.
But it is not all that expensive to get the stone recut or it may only need to be repolished slightly if the chips are minute. You may have minimum weight loss.
Ask your jeweler to help you determine what the weight loss would be and have them get it recut or repolished for you.
