I am looking to spend around 4000 on the diamond. I have two diamonds i have found that appear to be a good price.

.84 Carat, VS1, Round, G, Ideal Cut for $3800

or

.90 Carat, SI1, Round, F, Good Cut (depth is 64.5%) for $3800

How big difference will that cut make. Because the larger stone is deeper they have almost identical measuremnts (6.07~6.10 mm)

The smaller has inert flouresence, what is that all about anyway?

Which one to get?

Hi Slick,
In my opinion, the .84 is a better deal. You hit the nail on the head with this question:
>>How big difference will that cut make?

Cut controls 98% of the brilliance of a diamond. And since you are probably attracted to diamonds b/c of their flash/sparkle, cut is the number one thing you should focus on. Ideal cut is better than 'good' cut, and for the ultimate, get an H&A cut diamond.

Also, you might want to look online for an H&A diamond if you want the ultimate in cut. Superbcert.com has a .84 H/VS1 H&A in your price range that scores "very high" in all three categories on the brilliancescope.

But for the two you listed, definitely get the ideal cut diamond.

Hope that helps,
