I am deciding between 2 diamonds and there is little price difference between the two so I really just want to pick the best diamond.

They are both 1.0 carat, princess cut, E color, VS2 clarity, good symmetry, no flourescence

The first has:
measurements 5.65x5.5x3.87mm
depth 70.4%
table 74%
girdle thin to medium
polish very good

The second has:
measurements 5.68x5.43x3.79mm
depth 69.8%
table 78%
girdle thin to very thick
polish good

The information came off the GIA certificates for both. I am leaning towards the first one because of the smaller table %, a bit more square and better polish. Without seeing them, which is the better diamond?

My advice is go with the smaller table.

Smaller tables imply bigger Crown heights and percentages which are an
important factor in increasing light out put from the stone. Too bad
your vendor is not providing you
with a BrillianceScope report.

A 78% Table will have a smaller
Crown and lower Crown Height/ %
resulting in a shallow, glassy look.

I have to agree that the first one looks better by the numbers. With fancy shapes it is hard to go that route without seeing the stone. That is why we individually inspect each stone and also run a sarin analysis for crown angle and pavilion angle as well as light performance.
The crown, pavilion relationship is very important on the princess cut diamonds.

I second that. The table and the crown height is very
important. Very few people cut them that way.
