Hi,

I really like a 2.10 carat/I color/Ideal Cut/SI1/Very good polish and symmetry, round diamond for 14K

there is inclusion but it's only in the corner and not visible to naked eye (atleast not to me)

My question is:

Is this diamond fairly priced in your experience.
this is GSI certified and not GIA which seems to be the standard, does this make any difference.

Please help and advice, it will really help. thx in advance.

Let's put it this way: a GIA-graded, eye-clean "2.10 carat/I color/Ideal Cut/SI1/Very good polish and symmetry" (replacing "Ideal" with "Excellent", since GIA does not use "Ideal" as a term) is somewhere around $20,000. You can find GIA graded I/SI1/EX stones below $20k, but they will have some issue (strong fluorescence, more easily visible inclusions, not-so-good cut) that make them less desirable commercially and sometimes visibly less appealing.

A GIA report for a 2.00-2.99 carat diamond is $154 and about 40 days waiting time (or $308 and have it next day).

If all that is different between "your" stone and a GIA/AGS-graded stone is the lab report, the vendor would be well served by spending the extra $300 - or even $500 including shipping and a bit for his bother - to get an extra $3000, or even $6000+

So why don't they?

It is possible that you have found a nice stone at a fair price, but you are fundamentally taking the vendor's word and your ability to grade a diamond as your guides. The lab report is useless and - I should say - so is the vendor's word: if they really think it's an I/SI1/Ex, why are they pricing it at $3-10k below market? Are they a charity?

Sounds about right. Grading is a big deal.

It was sent to GSI and not GIA for a good reason.
