This is a price quote from Shenoa & Co. in NYC. The diamond (with GIA cert.) is VS1 , G color, depth 61.2%, table 58.9%, weight 1.20 carat, no fluoresence. The quote including platinum setting (probably worth about $350) is $7500. Is this a good deal?

Also, the GIA cert mentions that this is a "Illuminex" diamond. What does that mean?

You need more information on the stone to tell. Don't know what "illuminex: is. The stone could be okay, though.

You are spending a lot of money so you ought go through the tutorial. The more you know, the more money you save or the better the rock you get.

From all of the research that I have done...as well as my own personal experience with them...I would not use Shenoa and Company. They are also known to go by the name of Global Bargain Hunters. They made buying the ring for my fiancee a personal nightmare. Not only did they rip me off, they refused to return my money. They lied to me about the quality of the ring. They said the ring they were sending me was a "F-G" in color. No such color exists. When I took the diamond to an independent appraiser, he informed me that the ring was actually a J color. He also said that grading diamonds is not an inexact science. Even though Shenoa and Company states that appraisers opinions can vary 25%, this is just not the case. Going from a G to a J is just not possible. Also, I would say that all of my dealings with Scott Cowen and company have been horrible. You should also be aware that very rarely will your credit card company stand behind you. I was told this by both of my lawyers. This company has a history of standing up to disputes. They are pros at the credit card system. They know all of the rules and loopholes. Bottom line....if it seems like it is too good of a deal it is. STAY AWAY FROM SHENOA AND COMPANY!!

Shenoa, Royal Ice, NGL appraisal … liers, cheaters, scammers, …DON’T EVEN THINK OF BUYING FROM THEM!!! Run the other way!!! Don’t even think of buying from these people. They promised me 2 pairs of beautiful studs totaling $23,000 but the quality turned out to be so poor that I did not even try them on!!! They were supposed to be eye clean but were instead full of inclusions they did not even sparkle. I then returned them in a couple of days but, instead of a refund, they are trying to offer me a store credit! Why would I want credit from a store I no longer trust??? They claimed it was because I returned it late but this is ABSOLUTELY FALSE as I returned it only a couple of days after receiving it (THE day they provided me their return information). I had purchased 2 beautiful rings from them 5 years ago totaling $50,000. They are clearly not the same people I delt with then. BTW, Shenoa and Royal Ice are the same people, with the same phone number and address!! I am also convinced that the NGL is connected to them and can issue any thing they darn please!!
