Jareds at Wayside Commons,Burlington, MA 01803.
The worst customer service i have ever seen. I went there with my friends to shop for one of my friends wedding ring. When we entered, the first questions the sales person asked us was, "Who is the Bride ?" (which was my friend) "Where is the Groom ?" (he was not there with us) .. then she says "Then whos gonna pay for the ring ?" ...
there were no other customers in the store, and for our budget of around 10K, she showed us 4 rings and said this all they have right now for our budget.
we liked one ring among the 4, but the ring came with a band as a set. we told her, in our tradition we dont do the bands, so is it possible to buy the ring by itself. she then replys saying "this is American culture, and we have to follow this tradition now."
we were four of us who went to the store, and in the first 5 mins we felt offended and 3 of us stepped out of the store, it was only the bride who was looking at the rings and she came out in another 10 mins.
the sales person was very rude and we thought may be she had a bad day or something, but later when we discussed this with our friends at work, they also agreed and shared their stories about how bad this stores customer service is.

WOW! that is unbelievable? To tell you that you have to adhere to "American Culture" and buy something that you don't want!??!?! That's incredible! What a terrible sales person. I don't know much about Jared (although, personally, not a fan of chain stores, in general), but I have to HOPE that that is just one really bad sales person either having a really bad day or just REALLY in the wrong line of work, and not indicative of how all associates at the store are. Maybe those other friends got this person when they went in? But wow. That really blows my mind. and just FYI--for 10k, your friend has TONS of options out there, so tell her not to stop looking, and if she wants to join this forum and let us know what she's looking for, we'll be more than happy to help her with some advice and with any questions she has.
still...wow.
still...wow.

If you really really want that exact ring without the matching band, try contacting the Jared's online department. There are, of course, lots of one-location type of jewelers out there who are much more friendly who could probably make the piece for you and who actually deserve your business. They might even be able to do a better job and for less money if you give them a try. The big advantage stores like that have is a very large inventory to choose from while the advantage that the smaller stores have is more personal and customized service. Unless you're in a huge hurry to get what you want TODAY, in my book that tips the scale towards the smaller outfits.
