Rather than posting a link to an outside page alone, please actually share what happened here. It's hard to always know if outside pages can be trusted. Also, having read it myself, did you not insure your ring? If so, you could contact your insurance company about replacing your lost stone/head. It is a shame that a company that offered a "lifetime guarantee" wouldn't help you out, but it all comes down to how they word that guarantee--is it for workmanship, damage, etc... remember: they have lawyers who help with the wording of these things to limit their liability as much as possible. This is why there are insurance policies for such things.

I'm simply letting people know a company who claims to have been in business for over 170 years is not who they say they are. They are going on the name but not backing up any of the merchandise. This is not about my insurance. It is about a faulty design in a ring that the jeweler will not back.

If your merchandise was materially defective, that would be a valid insurance claim and then the insurance company would subrogate against the jeweler. They may or may not win but that becomes their problem. The way they do it is to get a forensic appraisal on the piece and then sue the company. BBB is owned by Zales Corp by the way. It's entirely possible to do that yourself if you want. The issue is going to be the fine print of that 'lifetime guarantee' and an expert opinion testifying to the fact that it was a manufacturing defect rather than customer abuse. I agree that there's an assortment of loophole opportunities and these sorts of contracts often lead to problems. Posting a blanket 'I hate BBB' type website is fun but it doesn't really do very much either to help your case, to damage them, or even to inform potential shoppers. These sorts of guarantees are routinely pretty bad and I"m not really surprised that they won't replace the stone but to make progress you need to be specific details matter on this sort of thing including dates, verbage of the contract etc. I agree with Laurie that it's far better to copy what you count as the relevant parts of your complaint directly into your post here both for the convenience of readers and to eliminate the exposure to an ouside site.

If you haven't already done so, complain to the Better Business Bureau. They're something of a toothless tiger but complaints there do add up and it costs you nothing to file one.

Thank you Denverappraiser for your constructive input. I want any potential buyers to beware as I pursue this issue and my options.

Denverappraiser:

I did have a forensic review of the ring and it provided a wealth of knowledge. Thank you so much.

Care to share what came of that? I've not heard of anyone having that done, so I'm curious...

I will. :)

I would suggest removing your email in that format and change it to id-name at hostname dot com, to avoid any spambot activity.
