Hi There,

I have a diamond that I bought a few years ago to give to my jeweler friend to put in an engagement ring for my girlfriend. We are trying to buy a house now and are considering to sell the diamond in order to put down a larger down payment on the house we are going to buy...

The diamond is gorgeous. It is:

- 1.09ct
- Color Grade H
- Clarity VS2
- Cut Grade Excellent

I have the GIA report and certificate here with the diamond. I am not too big on diamonds or jewelery, but my friend who was going to make the ring helped me pick it out and she said it is the perfect diamond for an engagement ring. We were going to put a few pieces of Alexandrite on the both sides of the diamond, the design drawings are beautiful. It is truly sad that I am even considering parting with this diamond, but I'd like to hear what your offer is!

Kind Regards,
Steve

P.S. Taking photos later this afternoon, will post later

Steve - best of luck with the sale... and the purchase.

You may want to put an email address in your post, because the PM system on the forum is disabled (too much spam), so people can only contact you through a reply here, and some may be a little wary of doing so in a public forum.

I would suggest that if you put your contact information, put it in the format of myemailaddy at hostsite dot com (instead of how you'd normally write it name@whatever.com) to evade the spambots as best possible. Since you have the report for the diamond, as well, I'd suggest scanning it in with the picture or at least listing the cert number, since it can be looked up online on the GIA site (may or may not have a scan of the original cert, though, depending on how long ago it was actually certified, so...I'd still advise a scan if you can do it)

That said--here's the thing about selling your diamond: You're almost never going to get out of it what you put into it. Even though you've got something--JUST gauging from the 4 (well, 5) Cs that you've listed, you've got a pretty, and fairly desireable stone--face-up white, eye clean, good sparkle, etc, but even though you never set the diamond so it's not technically "used" people are never going to pay second-hand for a diamond the same as they would at a retail store or even an e-tailer. So if re-buying a similar stone down the line is going to wind up costing you more (which it certainly will...the market fluctuates, but almost always on a slow, steady incline), and you're going to get less for it now, you *may* be better off keeping it. And considering you're buying a house together, perhaps giving it to her sooner than later is a good idea ;) But, of course, that's entirely your call!

Either way, good luck and congrats in advance on the house :)
