I just have a ? i found a loose diamond in a little box in a small bag ..when i turn it upside down the external part of the diamond only on the bottom of it looks like gold on it not the top only the bottom ...ive seen fake diamonds that dont have this on or real diamonds that dont either ...like i said when you pick it up the top of diamond is clear but around the sides it looks like gold all around it ....i was just gonna throw it out but im not sure and i hate to pay the money to get it appraised to find out it is worth nothing....

From your description, I think it's a metallised piece of glass or lead crystal. Take it to a jeweller, and they should be able to tell you for sure, and should not charge you anything for it.

Yeah...it sounds to me more like a rhinestone that someone lost from a piece of costume jewelry, intending to glue it back in. Back in the old days (ha!) sometimes diamonds were artificially colored to make them look pink or green or whatever (something applied to the outside, as opposed to a permanent treatment like heat or irradiation), but in the modern era, I don't believe diamonds were ever foiled.
