I was at the grocery store this morning and the girl ahead of my had a pretty ring on her right hand that caught my eye. Being the goof that I am, who doesn't mind accosting strangers with strange requests to look at jewelry, I asked to see her ring. She showed me a beautiful engagement ring on her other hand, which I complimented and then had to tell her I actually hadn't seen that she was wearing an engagement ring, that I meant the one on her other hand. She was like "OH! Sure! It was my grandmothers ring from around the '20s. Her parents gave it to her. It's my favorite thing ever", to which I remarked that it caught my eye because it was almost like mine! And showed her my antique ring that I wear on my right hand--they were very similar outline, but whereas mine has a center stone, small diamonds on either side and then all around the whole main center. Hers had one main stone and slightly smaller side stones in two rows of two and had a little more metal showing. Maybe it's just me, but I was tickled to run into someone randomly with a ring so similar of the same "vintage" like that. Thought I'd share

Heh. If I tried that, I'd still be in some jail trying to explain to the police that really, I'm looking at the ring because I am interested in Art Deco jewellery from an historical and artistic point of view...

LOL, agree with Davide, only a woman can get away with something like that.

Naaah.... I'm sure being a short girl helps, but if you were to ask in as innocuous a way as I do, I'm sure you might get a little more of a startle at first, but I'm sure you'd be obliged. Then again, it might depend on where in the country (or what country) you were in
