Im looking at a brilliant round and have 1 in mind I would like to purchase for my future wife http://www.pricescope.com/forum/images/smilies/3.gif I've used the holloway cut advisor tool and it seems to be pretty good.

Depth %:62.6
Shape:Round
Table %:55
Carat Weight:1.51
Polish:Excellent
Color:F
Symmetry:Excellent
Clarity:VS2
Cut Grade:Very Good
Measurements:7.30 x 7.27 x 4.56
Report:GIA
Length To Width:1.00 to 1
Girdle:Medium
Culet:None
Fluorescence:None

I've included an image of the small inclusions. The only thing that worries me is the small clouds. Will these be noticeable?

Does this diamond appear to be a good diamond?

Thanks for the help in advance.

The clouds are unlikely to be an issue. I'm not surprised it comes out well on the HCA, since all the info points to it being a very bright stone, which Garry Holloway prefers.

The question here is whether the info from the report is reflective of reality (e.g. what you have for angles is the average of 8 values, but what are those individual values - which you can get from a Sarin/OGI scan), and whether you like the looks, and there is nothing that can tell you (or us) that, other than you seeing it and comparing it to other stones.

I'm not worried about Holloway, because as the others who will chime in after me know, I put absolutely no stock in it. As far as I'm concerned, everything else about the stone looks just fine. My personal preference is for a slightly bigger table on a round, but you're totally within the ideal range for the table, you've got a VG cut, and EX Polish and Symmetry, great Color and totally eye-clean Clarity. As for the clouds, they're not a worry. By definition, a VS Clarity diamond has "Minor inclusions when viewed with 10x magnification or better" and grading is always done face up, which is why you MAY see them from the side, depending on how good your eyes are, how close you're looking, and how the ring is set, but I wouldn't give it a second's thought. I'd say you could put this stone in the "winner" column.

Well, if the clarity is a concern, you can always change the color a little bit and bring the clarity up. Here is a nice diamond we have available. It is a 1.52ct. G VS1 with an excellent cut grade as well as polish and symmetry. It is available for only $15,589 which is probably not much more than the diamond you are looking at. :) The difference between a G and an F is far from noticeable. In a VS1 graded diamond it gets a little harder to find the clarity characteristics under the microscope. This diamond also does not have any clouds plotted on the GIA report. If you want more information on this diamond you can contact Jan at info@dbof.com.

If you are looking for a top of the line cut grade, that one isn't it. The pavilion angle is very shallow.
