Princess Cut, D Color, 0.62 ct., VS2, Signature Ideal Cut

I don't know much about diamonds other than my research the last few days and actually saw this GIA report after I purchased it, not realizing I could view it. Did I do OK?

Thanks for any help.

Did you do OK based on what parameters? Blue Nile is generally fairly priced and has a good return policy, so you are doing fine from that point of view.

Could you spend less and get something that looked as good? Yes, no doubts.
Could you get a larger diamond for that price? Yes, absolutely.
Could you get a larger diamond that looked as white and was eye clean once set? Yes, certainly.
Could you get a better cut diamond? Very possibly, but there isn't enough info to know (BN Signature Ideal means what Blue Nile wants it to mean, and they aren't too clear as to what it means for the buyer)
Could you get another D/VS2 0.6x princess with an equivalent cut quality for less? Probably, but not by much.
Could you get something totally different for the same money? Very certainly yes.

Totally incidentally, what you have is a GCAL report (customised for Blue Nile), not a GIA one.

Sorry I did not elaborate in my first post. I was set on Blue Nile because they had a setting I really liked, and I could not find an equivalent elsewhere. I also liked their return policy and it made me more comfortable to buy online (and I understand I had to pay a bit more for that experience).

I wanted to select a Diamond from their site that would fit the setting, and this is the diamond I selected based on my paramaters (at least VS2, G color, 0.60 or above, and an ideal cut). Getting a D color diamond was coincidental, the cut was my #1 priority.

Did I do OK as in did I get a decent deal on this diamond in comparison to the other diamonds on Blue Nile? I

Here is more information on this diamond :
http://www.bluenile....STEP|LD01648638

Based on ordering from Blue Nile, was this diamond a good choice as far as the C's go? Based on Blue Niles site, Is there a diamond I should have chosen over this one? I would have liked to go bigger but would have had to compromise the cut, and I did not want to compromise the brilliance of the diamond to save a few bucks.

Also, when I receive this diamond, is it recommended I get a professional to appraise it & look it over, due to the fact that I have very little knowledge of diamonds? I'm sure I'll like it once it arrives, but I'd probably never be able to tell whether or not I should return it for a better diamond due to my limited scope.

Thank you for your help.

1. I doubt very much that the setting you found on BN is not a commercially available design. You should not consider this a significant constraint.

2. You are right to focus on cut. The problem is that - apart from AGS graded stones - there is no consistent grading system for princess cut diamonds, and Blue Nile does not disclose how they get to include a stone in their "Signature Ideal" cut grade. They may be using totally irrelevant information (which I suspect is the case, since it is the information available on grading reports, and BN does not see the stones), or it may be based on a sensible model. We just don't know.

3. Your criteria yield a set of 3 stones on Blue Nile, including the one you picked. I cannot find a reason to choose or discard any one of those in particular, because all such considerations would need to be based on cut quality information that is not available on BN.

4. There's about 1000 stones listed on this site that are 0.6x princess cut, D-G and FL-VS2. In that list, there's bound to be some that are at least as well cut, and some better than the one you picked, but again the info on cut is not available or at least not immediately.

Given all this, I'd make sure to show the stone to a trusted expert, and go with their opinion. Alternatively, resign yourself to paying a premium, and go to a vendor that specialises in top-of-the-line cut, asking them to source something within your parameters. You are trading off uncertainty (and possibly some performance) for money.

I agree with what Davide said, but from what I could tell from the cert, I would say you did fine. I would most certainly have an independent appraiser check out the diamond once it gets to you, and even if you decide you love it and want to keep it--have that appraisal for insurance purposes. It'll be worth the $60-100-something (depending on where you live and what the going rate is) you spend on it either way :)

Hi David, is there a way I can contact you directly? I appreciate your expertise and your response to my post and need further guidance. I have not sent the wire yet so I have a little time to make an informed decision first. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello!
I work for a diamond jewelry manufacturing company that has been a leading supplier of diamond jewelry in the market since 1977. I wanted to chime in on this topic and see if I can help.

When buying any diamond from a company, they are responsible for issuing all of the details about the diamonds involved in your order. Anjolee.com sells diamonds jewelry and provides a certificate of authenticity for every order. This document will list all the details about the diamond jewelry purchased as well as contain the value that it is sold for on Anjolee.com. I would make sure you agree with their return policy also. Anjolee offers a risk free, 30 day, no questions asked, full refund policy and does their best to work with any customer on diamond related issues.

For more about the quality of the diamonds found there, visit the site (LINK REMOVED) and click on the 'Diamond Guarantee" tab.

How is this helping the OP? Or anyone else who may read this?

Other than advertising your business in a way that is entirely generic, and not permitted by forum rules, of course...
