I want to purchase a Princess cut diamond for an engagement ring. I went to Jared Jewelry in Tysons, and saw a Leo cut, Princess Diamond. Essentially, this cut has more facets than a standard Princess (creating more brilliance), but has a premium associated w/ it(approx. $1000). What are opinions on this cut? Is it worth the premium vs. a standard Princess cut? What are opinions on Jared? Would I pay a premium just for shopping there?
Thanks!

Jareds is a chain outfit so I would imagine as compared to the internet you will pay a premium.
Just putting extra facets on a diamond doesn't always make the stone brighter.
The proportions are what will guarantee a nice light performance on the stone.
You need to compare the proportions for the shape.

What's a standard princess cut? There exist many variables that help determine the price of a diamond. You presumabley know the 4c's and each of those help determine the intrinsic value. But there are other 'intangibles.' Which may mean as much. The reputation, longevity, service, etc. of your dealer, for instance. Does the dealer offer any warrantees, future upgrade options? Nearly all diamonds appreciate in value over time. Specially the upper-end 4c diamonds. My advice is buy from a reputable, long standing, high-end dealer and buy the very best quality that you can afford, period.
