Where is the best, most popular, place to buy loose diamonds online?

Who is the Apmex of the Diamond World?

Thanks for any and all input. (please don't post your own site)

What do you mean by 'best'? Is 'most popular' really a synonym?

Apmex? I'm unfamiliar... or was that a typo for AMEX?

"Best" is totally relative. Best price? Best quality? Best customer service? I'm going to guess if you polled 100 people who checked out more than one online retailer, you'll get 100 different answers as to who they went with and why.

If it's helpful at all, the companies that DR lists on their "Diamond Finder" tool, while not expressly RECOMMENDED, they have been vetted as reputable and trustworthy. Everyone is going to have different experiences based on any number of things, but at least you know those folks aren't fly-by-night folks. Not to imply that anyone out there NOT listed with us here is. (Have I covered my rear all around? ;) ) There are lots of e-tailers out there, some good, some not, but there are too many factors involved to ever say any ONE is the BEST.

Good luck in whatever it is you're looking for!

APMEX = American Precious Metals EXchange - not necessarily a good comparison to make (and by no means the largest precious metals broker, BTW):

1. An ounce of pure gold is an ounce of pure gold. A 1.00 ct G/VS2 diamond is not "just" a 1.00 G/VS2. Even limiting yourself to GIA-graded stones listed on this site, there is a spread of about 2:1 in prices for 1.00 G/VS2 - some of it is margin, but a lot of it is to do with all the other variables that make each stone unique. Things get worse if you look at "less commoditised" stones like fancy cuts or fancy colours or larger sizes.

2. Since an ounce of gold is an ounce of gold, you can select the "best" precious metals broker largely based on price. APMEX may well meet that criterion, although if you start looking at the issue of alloys for jewellery a precious metals broker like APMEX is not necessarily your best port of call either.

So, I guess it's back to what do you mean for best: Blue Nile is by far the best known, and most likely the largest diamond broker. It's not always the lowest price, never the best service, and it has an extremely broad range of quality. Does it make it a bad choice? Not at all, but it is horses for courses.

The largest volume diamond seller in the US is Walmart. The best known is probably Tiffany & Co. That's two different definitions of 'most popular' that have wildly different approaches to the whole business. Both sell online, both have a loyal customer base, and both consider themselves to be clearly and obviously 'better' than the other.

Palladora - I have asked this already: "Who do you represent?" This is supposed to be a classified forum for non commercial ads, and vendors are not supposed to promote their business except in response to specific queries by the public based on the forum rules.

I know that US Walmart is the biggest store, but for buying online jewelry, there are many stores. You can search for it. Palladora also sells diamond ring with unique design. So check out and find out yourself.
