Hi, I am looking at an emerald cut diamond.

This is the info I have
EMERALD CUT
Measurements: 8.22x 5.59 x3.49 mm
carat weight : 1.39 carat
color grade: g
Clarity grade: SI2

PROPORTIONS
Depth: 62.4%
Table: 72%
Girdle: Extremely thin to slightly thick
Cutlet: none

Polish good
Symmetry good
Fluorescence none

Comments: Additional clouds are not shown

That was the info from the GIA report

I have never owned an emerald cut diamond and wouldn't know if this is a stone that shows well. Also with this stone do you think the inclusions are going to show.

Thanks I am supposed to see the stone over the weekend and am hoping for some info in advance.

From what I have been reading this may not be the right type of clarity to get for an emerald cut.

The proof will be in seeing it, but I would personally take a pass on this diamond. Emerald cuts are VERY windowed--ie, the way that the facets are arranged, they're a less "sparkly" diamond and therefore, much less "forgiving" with inclusions. You're going to see right into the diamond and see any inclusions, whereas some other cuts of diamonds (like Brilliant, which is what Round, Oval, Pear and most Cushion Cuts are ) can be somewhat forgiving, and Radiant (which is what Radiants and Princess) are a "busy" cut and the light bounces around a lot inside and so it can kind of hide some of the inclusions, depending on what and wher they are, because there is so much other sparkle.

I would definitely stick with GIA so that you know exactly what you're getting, but if you're trying to stay in a budget, drop your carat size a bit and trade up clarity. I would advise staying no lower than a VS2 with an Emerald Cut UNLESS you can see the diamond in person and make sure that you can't see the inclusions. Sometimes you can find an eye clean SI1, but it's a whole lot less likely in this cut. It's always going to depend on the stone, but that's kind of rule of thumb, as far as I'm concerned.

oh, and make sure you have VG or better Symmetry (and Polish, but esp Symm), or you're just not going to get much sparkle out of it, too.

Thank you for your advice. I kept looking for info on the internet on emerald stones and found the ring I was supposed to look at this weekend was recently purchased by the person selling it (she bought it on ebay & I was able to match the GIA report to this diamond). I also saw the person that sold her the ring had listed the stone only on ebay and it didn't sell. The picture showed the stone unset and their were lots of visable inclusions. It was magnified but I still think I would have been disappointed. The person selling it put it on craigslist and she lied about how long she has had it and the situation. I can't believe I was able to dig up that information. The internet is an amazing thing!!!! I am back to my search. The problem is I really wasn't looking for an emerald cut diamond and had wanted one years ago and once I saw that I wanted it:)
I will slowly search again. I recently reset my diamond I got 22 years ago when I got engaged so this would be more of a right hand ring.

DEFINITELY a good idea to do your homework when it comes to buying diamonds--esp Emeralds. Look at lots in person to find the ratio that you like best, stick with good clarity and a reputable store/seller. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions!
