This site is called Bidz.com Brand Name & Jewelry Auctions. Has anybody ever purchased anything from this site? What was the outcome, quality [etc]? Sorry if I have posted the URL 10000 times :) I've never posted here so I wanted to be sure you know the URL:
http://www.bidz.com/bzJApp/HTPromoPage.actionversion=3&query=categoryId:3761&txt=&comp=adjumpcpl&subid=9849
Thanks for any advice you can give me!! :)

HI Mouse,

Yeah, they're legit. Sort of. It's a closeout house specializing in selling cheap stuf cheaply and it's a way for jewelry dealers to unload things that aren't selling well for them. It's a virtual consignment place and they are basing their descriptions entirely on what the sellers say, which are routinely overblown, sometimes by quite a bit. I would totally ignore their idea of 'retail value' as a work of fiction but yes, if you buy something from them you'll get it, and if you return it within the rules of their return policy, I would fully expect them to honor it although you'll notice that there's a 15% restocking fee plus shipping and handling associated with their 100% refund guarantee  . From what I've seen the prices are usually reasonable for what you get so the question is really whether they've got what you want and whether it's worth 15% plus shipping and handling to you to figure it out. For me, that would be a deal killer.

OK. You've got a 1 carat total weight channel set band with reported I2/H diamonds in a rather wide 14k ring of unknown style or craftsmanship. Size 7. What's your question?

The problem with bidz.com and similar sites is that you have to pay for a package of bids, and then you're competing with other folks for the same items, BUT every time you place a bid, it ads a few more seconds on the clock, so you have to hope that after you place your last bid and the clock is due to time out, that no one else makes a bid and bumps it back into play. And then after all that, you are still paying for whatever you bid. So it's kind of like ebay, but your clock never REALLY runs out unless you already successfully outbid someone. You might get a deal, but you're gonna wind up likely spending a stupid amount of money buying the right to bid, then buying some more, then maybe getting your thing which might be a good price, but all the time and extra money you're spending, the chances of coming out ahead are slim to none. If you wanna try to bid for a good deal, stick to ebay! Otherwise, check out reputable online stores and buy with confidence and a return policy in case it's not all you hope or exactly what you were looking for. No sense throwing out good money on a gamble!

Hello mouse!

Well, good luck.
I absolutely agree with Laurie.

The thing is... honestly, if you really want something, you'll have to work hard for it,
get in to the techie part of the diamonds, as if you are creating something
truly unforgettable. It makes owning a diamond ring even more special.

~ Hoping you'll win!

Cheers!

Dear LaurieH,

Hi Bidz,

I'm glad to hear that you've dropped the restocking fee. That was really my major gripe with your site. I don't care for a lot of the merchandise but it doesn't matter a whit whether I like it or not. The buyer needs to like it. I hope the new policies work out well for you and I wish you and your manufactures all the best of luck.

By the way, welcome to the forum.
