Hi Jennifer,
That’s way too broad a question. Different people want different things in their jewelers and not everyone likes the same sorts of merchandise. It’s a big world and Costco and Tiffany are both in the business selling some similar looking things, both have loyal followings of customers and both are right in their claim that they are the ‘best’ at what they do. There are literally thousands of competitors and nearly all have something to be said for them. You need to narrow down on what you consider important in the deal.
What shapes do YOU like?
Do you prefer ornate or simple things? Geometric or organic? Yellow or white?
What’s your budget?
If you had to choose (and you will), would be leaning towards bigger, whiter, clearer, brighter, cheaper?
Are you comfortable shopping online with a jeweler who isn’t in your neighborhood?
Do you live in a town with a lot of jewelers?

Hi Jenifer,
I am from Central NJ as well!
As a fellow newcomer to the process of buying a diamond engagement ring I highly suggest you go to the articles section of this site http://www.diamondreview.com/articles and read the Diamonds 101 and Engagement Rings 101 sections. I know I have found them to be really helpful and informative and I often reference them as I am going through the process of buying a ring/diamond currently.

Hi Jenifer,
I'm guessing from a few things that you've said that you're visiting someone in the US from another country and that English isn't your first language? I ask only so that I can answer in simpler wording, if necessary, to make it a little easier to understand
Some of this stuff can get complicated!
So are you concerned with finding a nice diamond, and then picking a ring, or you're looking for somewhere that carries inexpensive, nice looking finished rings? Is there a ring style that you like and want to know where in your area to find it, or you don't know what you want, and are just looking for something that "jumps out at you"?
Do you know what shape of diamond you want? Round? Square (Princess, Asscher, Radiant)? Triangle (Trilliant)? Rectangle (Emerald, Radiant--yes, they are the same cutting style, but some are more square and some are longer rectangles)), Others? (Hearts, Marquise, Pear). Are you concerned about being able to see inclusions in the diamond, or is size more important to you? Do you want a solitaire (just one diamond in the ring) or do you want a ring with side stones?
There are many online retailers, both those that sell complete rings, and those that sell diamonds and then let you pick out your ring to go with it, and then put it all together for you. If you can give us just a little bit more information, I'm sure we can help point you a little more in the right direction!

Hi Ms. J.A.!
Welcome!
The only clear thing here is your budget that is around $1500-1800.
That's good! Kindly read the previous threads, and you'll understand how some of our members got their
beloved diamond ring under $2000.
Use our Diamond Finder tool as you educate yourself, why this stone ~with same carat weight
is more expensive than the other. Read the articles, and use our tools.
Or use FindMyJeweler and get quotes from our credible network jewelers.
Try it!
Cheers!
