Hey all,

I recently bought the Tacori 2578RD with diamonds half way around the band from a reputable local jeweler for a very discounted price. The price was low because they are no longer goign to be carrying tacori in their store.

The current CZ set in the ring has a diameter of 6.25MM, and my stone has a diameter of 7.43MM. Does this have the potential to be a disaster when i go to get my diamond set? The jeweler that sold me the ring offered to set the stone for me, but i wanted to get a second opinion as they seemed eager to sell the setting in the first place. Does it seem like the prongs could be moved to accommodate the larger size?

Also, the ring is a size 6.5 and my girlfriend is a size 7. I've compared sizes to a ring that i know fits here, and they are almost the same, making me think that the size may not come into play at all. If i needed to, however, would it be difficult to resize the ring by a half size?

The jeweler has a 30 day return policy, which made me comfortable enough to buy the ring and investigate a little further.

Does anyone have experience with this? I assume the resizing will be routine, considering it will be for a quarter or half size. What about the prong set?

please share thoughts..thanks!

here is a link to the ring--mine is half way around the band, not full...

It should not be a problem resizing the ring up a half size. Won't they do it for you? I have that particular ring in stock as well with 1/2 way around the band diamonds and ours takes a center stone of 1.50 ct. range. Let me know if you need any help. We can set the stone and size it for you as well. If you want to contact me directly, our e-mail is info@dbof.com

I think when it comes to ring, if the girl's size is 7, she'll be comfy wearing a 7.5 but not lower than her size., but loosing a few pounds can do wonders.
Go the jeweler who'd provide you with all the services that you needed. Your local jeweler should not leave unsatisfied., ask for recommendations or just like Jan said you can contact her directly.
Lastly, congratulations! You found a Tacori bargain., that's a treasure!
Cheers!

Sizing 6.5 to 7 or 7.5 is not a problem. Adjusting a 6.25 mm head to a stone that is 1.2 mm larger may be a lot more so, depending on how the ring is styled and fabricated

is there a picture that i can provide that would help determine the difficulty in this procedure?

No photo that I can think of. Most jewelers would never attempt to try to put a stone that is 7.45 in a head that takes a stone that is 6.2 mm. It would be a disaster waiting to happen. I'm also sure that attempting it would void any and all Tacori warranties as well in the future.

Based on your picture and dimensions, a competent bench jeweler should be able to set your stone in that ring. The prongs are actually cast as part of the ring and are quite long. Each prong would have to move "out" by .6mm or 2 hundredths of an inch. By comparison, 1/8" = 12.5 hundredths of an inch. Check your ruler to understand how small that is.

Examined out of context (off the finger), you will probably be able to see a slight outward bow in the prongs.

Things to remember when shopping for a diamond...
1. A certificate is a piece of paper, not a certification of quality or value.
2. A Certified diamond isn’t. See #1.
3. A Diamond is a unique natural crystal, not a commodity that is reproducible.

that is extremely helpful. I think i'm going to let the jeweler that i purchased the ring from do the work. They said that they would garuntee it, so if it comes out terrible, i'll just take my money back.

its hard to justify spending another 2000 dollars on this ring if it can be made to work.

Hi I`m a jeweler who has set a lot of diamonds in Tacori settings .To stretch the prongs that far out will stress the metal and may even create small cracks at the base of the prongs. Plus it will look like it has been forced with the prongs being pulled that far from their true diameter. Like putting a size 71/2 foot into a size 6 shoe.

If the diamond does fall out of the setting from this the deal you have will be long forgotten. A 1.50 ct. diamond probably cost a lot more than the setting.
