I think it really depends on the specific diamond and style one wants to achieve.

As Jan mentioned, white gold and platinum are very popular at the moment. That said, there seems to be the beginning of a trend to yellow gold. The bottom line is that either white or yellow (or rose) work with diamonds and the most important issue is deciding what you like to wear. I ask my customers to think about the jewelry they already own when making their decision. Some people love yellow on their complexion, others don't. The decision is ultimately yours and it is hard to go wrong.
