Hey all. Glad to find this website. I wanted to ask your opinion on the price of this loose diamond that i found.

first of all its igi certified.

1.00
f
vs1
cut: very good
polish: very good
symmetry: good
6.44 x 6.49 x 3.86mm
table: 62.5%
crown height 11.5% - 31.5
pavillion depth 44.5% - 41.6
girdle - medium to sl. thick (fac.)
cutlet - pointed
fluor - none

i got this for a price of $5300. Is this a good deal/good diamond etc?

Also, how easy would it be to get this diamond insured (considering its igi) and is ignorance is bliss in attempting to get this certified by GIA or HRD?

thanks in advance!

The fact that it is IGI means all bets are off on colour, clarity and cut. Unfortunately, this means potentially a lot of money either way. My bet is that you paid a slightly higher price than you would have for an equivalent (i.e. same "real" colour, clarity and cut grade) from GIA or AGS, but I may be wrong. For what is is worth, it has unusual proportions, and the fact that it's exactly 1.00 ct makes me think the cutter was looking at the scales more than at the stone.

Insurance-wise, you should have no problem; the only question is whether the insurer is happy to go with your invoice as a description, or whether they require a formal appraisal and valuation.

Ignorance IS bliss, particularly if you like the stone and/or if you cannot return it.

I think it's about right, maybe just a very light touch on the expensive side.

I wouldn't call it a bargain, but you could have done much, much worse.
