Trying to gauge which would be a better deal/buy. I am trying to stay under 9k and at around 1.5carats. I have two diamonds that i am looking at:'
CSHN, 1.51, J, SI1
CUSHION CUT DIAMOND WEIGHING 1.51 CARATS OF J COLOR AND SI1 CLARITY GIA CERTIFICATE $6300
http://www.diamonddoctor.com/viewitem.asp?...ge=5000x9999999

CSHN, 1.52, I, VS1
CUSHION CUT DIAMOND WEIGHING 1.52 CARATS OF I COLOR AND VS1 CLARITY GIA CERTIFICATE $8200
http://www.diamonddoctor.com/viewitem.asp?...ge=5000x9999999

I am going to set it on white gold pave ring and if i remember they were I type of accent diamonds on the ring.

PLUS: I have looked at another diamond place and was shown a 1.51 G/SI2 for about $8200. I asked about going down to a 1.4 carat range to take advantage of maybe a price difference versus being able to tell
the difference in size but they said the PRICE difference was not much. That one would typically see the price difference between 1.9->2 carats or from .9-1.0 carats.

Any advice? It would be highly appreciated :)

There’s not much to go on here. One of the big differences in cushions is with the facet pattern. Unlike traditional rounds, there are actually several options both in terms of the facet placements and angles as well as the overall shape of the stone. To an extent you can tell what facet design you have by looking at the plotting diagrams and you’ll notice that the two you’ve chosen are quite different. The picture the site provides isn’t of either stone so that’s not much help. Have you actually looked at some real stones? Can you tell the differences? What about girdle outline? Do you prefer a squarish look or something more oval or rectangular?

Hi RalphWigum!

Welcome :)

Between the two, I'm going for the "CSHN, 1.51, J, SI1".
You can click "Find an Online Jeweler" on the fist page, that calculating tool can definitely give you some best-deal price overview., compare as you stay within your budget.
IMO, it's better if you don't stick with one Jewelry Store.
Or check the nearest jewelry B&M around your area. Seeing the actual stone makes you appreciate its beauty regardless of the price.
Keep us posted!

Why did you pick those two in particular? They don't seem to have much in common apart from weight and (maybe) colour.

Really difficult to advise based on this paltry information. Ask the Vendor for photos and descriptions of the face up look of both diamonds.

Unfortunately they don't have any online pics. I have looked at them and taken pictures with my phone camera but I don't they would provide the detail information needed. I have shopped around at 2 other places here in the DFW area. One turned me totally off when they mentioned the 1.2 H SI2 GIA diamond they showed me may not be available by the time I make my decision (this was last friday). I told them that I wanted to decide by the 1st of July. They said I should deposit money if i wanted to reserve it, almost made me feel like i was at a car dealership. I did revisit diamond doctor in Plano, and they showed me a nice 1.24 I VS1 (polish VG, Symmerty G) GIA for $5900 and then they contacted me about another 1.5ct H/Si1 EGL for $6775 . I am definitely not an expert and don't want to get something not of good quality but also I can't spend an arm & a leg. I still have to manage my house payment ya know :) I haven't seen the EGL but have heard differing opinions/thoughts on GIA vs EGL. What are your thoughts? Sorry that I don't have pics. :)

The issue with EGL is its unreliability. I have recently seen a stone that they graded I; it was resubmitted to GIA to come back as Very Light Brown Q-R. That's 6 (or 7) grades...

It does not mean that the EGL stone is not nice; just that you should not expect it to be an H/SI1.

Hi Ralph- I'd suggest considering who you feel most comfortable with , as a dealer.
Include the ring in your thought process, as it's a very important part of how the diamond will look when it's presented.
Some J/VS's are way nicer than other I/Vs's- even though technically, I is a "better" grade.

As has been mentioned, there can be many different types of looks on a cushion.
For example this stone is a K/SI2 with more of a modern look

Just a personal peeve of mine- websites that offer photographs, but don;t identify them as sample photos......
