I'm looking for a Cartier Ballerine ring (REF.: N4188400) with a 1k center cut round diamond and a 1.9mm half/3/4 diamond band. Size 5. Can anyone provide any references?

You have three options: go to Cartier on 5th avenue (since you seem to be based in NYC), get someone to build you a (near-)replica, or scour the second hand/estate jewellery market. All have their pros and cons. Which one appeals most?

I went to Cartier on 5th. However I would prefer to have a near-replica made. Do you have any suggestions?

Most dealers will have access to good benchies who can produce custom work; are you trying to save money or to get something at the same quality level as Cartier? If the latter, custom work can end up as expensive as the original, particularly on a simple setting.

One thing I would NOT recommend is you sourcing the diamond and the ring from two different people, unless you know precisely who you are dealing with at both ends (and even then, it's much simpler, particularly for a "simple" request such as yours).

Give a call to David at Diamonds by Lauren, Jan at Diamonds Brokers of Florida or Barry at Excel Diamond; these are three reputable firms that do custom work and should have no problem in helping you. See who you get on with best, and who inspires trust.
