Can someone please tell me anything you know about an European Cut Stone? I have one i may be interested in. Its SI-1 clarity I color. Measures 6.2 mm.

Also , the other choice i am thinking of is a 2.02 ct heart solitaire. It does have some inclusions (no carbon) but nothing to the naked eye. The heart is F color but considered Si3-I1 clarity

Completely different styles i know...I like the heart because of its huge size...but dont know znything about European. Thanks for any information

The (Old) European Cut is one of the ancestors of the modern brilliant cut. It is characterised by a steeper crown, smaller table than a modern brilliant and often an open culet. Old stones are in general cut less regularly and with facets that appear chunkier, resulting in a distinctive pattern of scintillation and fire. Whether you like it, is entirely up to personal taste. I love it. Bear in mind that OECs, like all other shapes and cutting styles, exist in all sorts and qualities; even more so than modern cuts, given the less "precise" nature of the cutting processes at the time when they were cut.

Hello!
@davidelevi

The Old European Cut sounds very intact and bold to me.,
May I ask what is the new version of This OEC ?

Thanks!

Sorry, HeartAndStone, I can't understand your question. Could you please rephrase it? I'll hazard a guess below, but I'm not sure I'm answering the right thing.

There are companies that are now cutting OECs (and Old Mine Cuts) using modern technology. These have the same chunky faceting and high, steep crowns as the old stones, but are cut to a consistency and precision that were rarely achieved 80 to 120 years ago. Whether that makes them better is open to discussion: I find the irregularity and "handmade" look of old stones particularly appealing, as long as they are still decently cut.

@davidelevi

New variations and standards.

You got me though.. I'm exactly wondering about the Jewelry Companies who are excellent in making OEC, nowadays ,some sorts of experts on handling this good classic cut.
Lastly, what's the grading process when it comes to OEC?

Thank you so much.

Cutting New OEC/OMCs is a fairly specialised market. I know that Diamonds By Lauren and Good Old Gold both have access to them, and some of the newer cuts (like the Lucida) also have "throwback" features.

As far as I know, no-one grades OEC's cut, unless they are close enough to modern round brilliants to fall into that grading category.

Hello davidelevi!

IMO, appreciating diamonds based on cut is kinda tough love.. The magnificence of the brilliant is presented in a different manner., no certification can equate to satisfaction fueled by fascination and respect to the art of diamond cutting.

Hi!

@ diamondsbylauren

This 'new face' of OMC diamond-chunk is oozing with brilliance, thanks for posting the photo..
I'm also thankful that davidelevi got me right., hahaha.
Exactly what I'm currently digging.., a situation wherein you can really embrace the classic cut in a special way., and now I'm gonna watch the 'videos'.

'Till then!
