hello

I recently got engaged and when the paperwork was given to me I noticed it is not a certified diamond. The diamond is extremely sparkly and almost doesnt look real to the naked eye. It looks too good to be true. It has a very blue hue in the sunlight and in regular light it has a very rainbow sparkle to it. I keep questioning if the diamond is real or not? I am not sure what to do about this and im looking for some guidance.

Do you have any reason not to trust the paperwork/the jeweller that procured the stone? I don't mean to be disparaging in any sense, but substituting/not supplying a 0.73ct H/SI1 is not something that would make sufficient money to be worth ruining someone's reputation completely.

If you bring it to another jeweller, purely for confirmation purposes, you run the risk of getting tainted advice. People are often not very good neighbours, particularly when they miss a sale. Unless you (or someone in your family) is a good customer.

You could employ an appraiser - which would have the advantage of impartiality, although paying for an appraising fee just to be reassured it IS a diamond may be a little excessive. Do you need an appraisal to insure the ring?

I can almost see the diamond by just reading you post., and yes, I know the ring is stunning!
Now, if a diamond certificate will make you love the diamond even more, then get one.
Lastly, ask 'her' does she want a diamond certificate?

It’s pretty easy to tell if a diamond is real or not using a relatively inexpensive tool. Most jewelers are happy to do it for you for free and in front of you so you can watch. Grading the stone is a different sort of issue and takes a fair amount of expertise. For that hire an appraiser. Whether or not this would be helpful or even interesting to you depends on your own requirements. It sounds like you're pretty happy with what you've got, it's not for sale, you're not seeking insurance, and you couldn't undo the deal even if you wanted to so I'm not convinced it's worth your trouble to pursue it unless you just have a 'need to know' this sort of thing.
