Hey everyone, I've been looking at a couple diamonds for an engagement ring. I've gotten advice from another forum and just wanted to get a 2nd opinion. Here is the spec's below:

Go to that other forum and read their tutorial about what a ‘steep and deep’ stone is. Is it a total deal killer or just a cute rhyme? That’s up to you. We’re talking about subdividing the GIA-excellent cut grade without even looking at the stone after all and even the absolute worst GIA-excellent will still be a stone that nearly everyone will find attractive.

Thanks Neil, but just by looking at the GIA report information what is your opinion about the stone? I know it's ultimately up to me but I want to get a more experienced outlook on a steep deep diamond.

I don't know if it is within the realm of your financial possibilities, but if you are thinking of purchasing the diamond online, it may be worth it for you to do the following:
Purchase this stone with a clear 30-day no-questions-asked return. Upon delivery, go to a Jared's and ask to see their AGS-0 graded stones - these won't be steep/deep. Compare these to yours - in as similar an environment as you can; it may be difficult if you pull out a parcel paper and look at it within Jared's store, but I'm sure you can find similar environments, possibly even in your house, where there are halogen spotlights. Decide if it is worth keeping, or return it. All within the 30 days and your credit card payment window. Total cost if the stone is not a keeper: insured shipping back and forth - if that.
On whether a steep/deep is bad, I think Neil's answer is spot on. The other forum is well known for being home to super-highly-demanding people, and also for being home to a certain orthodoxy about how things should be.
