I have been looking at a virture circle pendant (on their web site www.lazarediamonds.com/main.html item LJC 10116P) at a higher end family owened diamond store that is AGS certified
Total ctw 0.75
Color G -H
Clarity VS to SI
Premium Cut Diamonds
It has about 17 individual diamonds in a circle set on platinum.
Thus making each stone about 4.4 in size (0.75 ctw / 17 diamonds = 0.044 x 100 = 4.4 each diamond)
Price out the door 2375.00 (including tax)
I have gone to several other jewlers (not high end) and the tell me that the this is WAY OVER-PRICED and that nobody spends the time in doing "premium cut" diamonds when they are soo small.... mullit diamonds i believe he called them.
So my question is.... Does Lazare Kaplan do "premiun cut" on the small diamonds?....
How much would be a reasonable price to pay for the pendant described above.
HELP
Thanks

Well cut small stones (melee) are noticeably nicer than poorly cut ones, and do cost more; the other jewellers are rubbishing a competitor but are either in bad faith or total ignorants. Even small diamonds can be cut with greater or lesser care.
$2200 or so (excl. tax) for a simple platinum pendant with 0.75ct melee is expensive, but not out of this world, particularly if it includes the chain. Whether it is worth it, only you can judge. Premium jewellers like Tiffany or Cartier would charge more for something similar.

Thank you sooo much. This pendant has about 17 melee diamonds for a total of .75 ctw. Is it possible that well cut or ideal cut small melee look larger that a similar wt melee that is poorly cut?.....
The reason I ask is that the melee diamond of lazare kaplan look larger
Thanks

Yes, well cut diamonds tend to look larger, because more light is reflected back.
