I dropped of my diamond at GIA's Carlsbad location today to have the ID number inscribed on the girdle. They told me it will be up to 10 days, but hopefully sooner, before it is ready to be picked up. Does it actually take that long, or should I expect it sooner? It is messing up my time table but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it to get set without the ID.

10 day turn around is par for this GIA service as well as return of grading reports. The actual technicians physical time to set up and inscribe the diamond takes about 10 minutes.

GIA is a busy place and they budget accordingly.

You could call them, tell them of your timetable, and ask if they can do it sooner for you.

Good Luck.
