Hi all,

I need some help. I thought I was buying a 1.30 carat diamond and it turns out that I got a 1.25 carat. Is there a huge difference in carat size between 1.25 and 1.30 carat? Should I go back to the jewelry store and ask to get what I paid for?

I am so confused and concern.

Thank you in advanced for your help.

Visually, you will hardly notice (and some 1.25s may well look larger than some 1.30s, depending on how they are cut). There is a 4% difference in weight that should translate into a 4% difference in price, which may well have happened.

However, what concerns me is that the difference is significant enough to be pointed out before you closed the deal, and the fact this has not been pointed out to you beforehand would be enough - in my view - to go back and return the diamond, then choose another jeweller to deal with.

I agree with Davide. I would also be inclined to question the rest of the grading details as well. If they can't get the weight right, which is the easiest of attributes to evaluate, what makes you believe their clarity, color, and cut grading? Is the stone mounted? If so, how did you decide the weight was wrong? If not, how did they make this mistake?

Thank you both for your replies. The ring is my wedding band and I think I will return it since I am not comfortable with their level of service. Again, thanks for your feedback.
