I am really interested in diamonds, but I have got just basics information about diamond. I have been just studying from a book about diamonds and I would like to do any course, but I dont know where it should be the best place, because in Australia it is expensive so Im looking for so good course , but cheaper such as in Thailand or India. I would like to get some recommendetation from experienced traders or somebody who know something about that.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Trading is a matter of buying and selling things and the hard part of trading diamonds, and nearly anything else for that matter, is selling. Although a school to learn product knowledge would be helpful and possibly entertaining, it’s not going to address how to deal with whatever marketplace you are choosing to work in and it’s NOT going to turn you into a diamond trader. I would suggest that if you can get your industry connections and your sales avenue in order, the path to product knowledge will become self evident. Start by finding a job in the industry. Any job. Then work up from there.

That said, www.aigsthailand.com is a well regarded school for learning about gems. www.gia.edu also has a campus in Bangkok and they are the ‘brand name’ school although they are considerably more money.

Hallo,

Thank you for replay. However, I would like to know what particular kind of job you did mean with any kind of job in that industry - in mining or jewellery????

Thank you

It depends on what's available in your area. It's a big industry. There are companies in mining, cutting, manufacturing, wholesaling, sorting, retailing, designing, advertising and many others and they tend to cross over. Experienced cutters learn skills and make connections that are helpful in wholesale, experience in mining will help you at retail, etc. In the US there's not much mining activity going on but it's likely to be different for you. You have to start somewhere. The usual rule for careers is first find a job, then find a better job, then find a career. It's a path that you really can't short circuit.
