Hello. I am trying to decide between a .7K Diamond Solitaire or a 1.0K Classical 3-stone setting. Both would be around the same price, I think. I am kind of leaning towards the 3-stone one, though.
I was just curious what setting did you choose and why? And what other settings were you contemplating before you decided on something else and why did you decide against it?
Thanks for any responses!!!

The setting came out of the choice of the centre stone. It ended up as a 3 stone with an E-colour Asscher centre and side light pink radiants. Had we picked a larger Asscher centre or a vivid yellow cushion (both under consideration), they would have ended respectively as a bezel-set solitaire and as a bezel + halo.
It came down to the ring concept she liked most - then again, given our relationship, this was very easy to discuss and there never was a "surprise" element.

She wanted a solitare setting. Classy and simple, thin band, 6 prongs. By the way, if you get the solitare you can grab a larger stone and then upgrade later.

Well, whatever we get...it will be forever. Not going to upgrade. My girlfriend is not really a jewelry type of girl. I mean, she is, but she isn't really about getting the biggest and best jewelry. Her most expensive piece of jewelry is probably $20, except for the $125 promise ring I bought her. She has proudly worn that ring everyday for over a year.
I'm sure whatever diamond ring I get, she will keep it forever without a thought of upgrading.
That's why I want to make sure it's the best and most beautiful I can get within my budget (~$3000). Upgrade the ring every year with more sentimental value. haha Cheesy! I know.
Anywho, keep the stories and opinions pouring in. I love reading them.

Yeah. They're both around $3000. 14K white gold setting.
I was kind of thinking about getting a .5K Diamond Solitaire in a platinum setting and choosing a semi-unique setting. But I'm not so sure...

If I were you, I'd minimise spend on the setting, and focus on getting the nicest possible cut in a decent size and clarity. Colour optional.
If you want a nice platinum (plain) setting, you are looking at the best part of $1k on that; yes, you can find for less (a lot less), but they generally aren't all that nice and can be flimsy. Elaborate settings can be upward of $2k, excluding side stones.

Well from a woman's perspective, I don't wear a lot of jewelry either, but there is always room for an upgrade. You don't necessarily have to upgrade the setting, but you can upgrade the center diamond. Have you asked her or ever mentioned something like upgrading? You may find that she wouldn't mind it

One man's opinion --- pass on the platinum. It just costs so much more than 14 ct white gold it's not worth it, especially on a small budget. At least for me, the stone is most sentimental. If you did want to upgrade to a platinum setting later, should be doable unless your setting is very unusual.
