Alright I paid a deposit for the following diamond and I need to know if the price is "right" or "fair"

1.3 Carats
H color
VS2
All Excellent Cuts
Flour: Med Blue
Price: 6500.00 USD

I figured the med blue would enhance a H color slightly from reading and searching online forums.

Should I get this diamond appraised? I few really uncertain about this deal. When the jeweler told me the numbers from the GIA was inscripted in the diamond, and he tried to show me through a loupe. I could not see it after trying twice. I dont know if it was me! But is the inscription hard to see even under 10x magnification?

If you aren’t comfortable with what the jeweler has told you about the stone, yes you should get it appraised. An appraisal may also be useful for your insurance requirements since most jewelers don’t provide adequate documentation with the sale.

The inscriptions can get be pretty hard to read sometimes. A microscope helps. Ask your appraiser to point it out.

You can look up some competitive prices using the 'find online jeweler' button at the top of the page. Even if you have no intention of shopping online this can be a useful tool in seeing what similar things cost in a highly competitive marketplace.

Stones with similar sounding specs go for between $4400and $8500 from the dealers here (assuming it's a round brilliant cut). The difference has primarily to do with the reliability of the grading and details that aren't on the report. If it's really GIA graded and there are no other issues, yes $6500 is a reasonable price, cheap actually, especially if this is a storefront location.

Did the jeweler show you a copy of the GIA report? What's the report number?

Yes he showed me a GIA certificate. I am going to pick up the diamond tonight, there is a inscription on it will let you know when I see it. I plan on bringing it to David Wolf to get it appraised just in case.

the inscription is GIA 2101899510. THE CERT shows that it is laser inscripted in the diamond

check out the post in the for sale section ... Aktive Motors has a deal on for SOCCI club members that even beats the 1100 price point but that is still a very good deal you got.
