so after searching and looking around, I took some advice and went with a gia cert stone. Ended up buying a 1.57 I s1 gia stone, ideal cut, ex ex...Color is pretty strong, very little difference in egl f/g color, overall Im happy with the stone and the fire is very strong. Price was pretty good as well,
The side stones are both .6ct round, H, vs2, all three stones match well and have a good sparkle to them.
Now it comes down to the setting, she allergic to white gold, nickel? in there. So its either going to be yellow gold or platinum. May go with the pave setting or just the basic 3 stone setting.

Palladium is a good alternative to white gold.

spoke with my rep, and told him what price I wanted out the door. Going with platinum setting with pave to put the total weight over 3ct. Spoke with another dealer that I have been working with as well, and was told that the price Im paying is a solid deal as the dealer isnt making much money of the stone. Most likely stone was traded in, so Im going to pull the trigger and finish this process up. Thanks for the help, and probably will only stick with gia or ags stones. The color of an I gia stone is still good, compared to igl or igi G color.

Good! Please post photos when you get it, and ideally on the hand of the recipient!

Appraisal costs: depends a bit on who you get and what the purpose is, but a couple of hundreds should be ample. If it is purely for insurance purposes, a detailed invoice by the jeweller may suffice (and it's free). Insurance will depend a lot on whether you add the item as a rider on your home insurance, you purchase a separate policy and a lot of other factors.

Each appraiser sets their own rates and they vary with location, the qualifications of the appraiser and with the details of the services you request so there’s no really straight answer but single item insurance type appraisals from an independent appraiser seem to range from about $50 - $150. All that I know of will be happy to give you an estimate of charges before any work begins. As Davide points out, for insurance purposes it’s often possible to use documentation provided by the selling jeweler and they don’t generally charge extra for this.

Insurance rates will also vary depending on the company chosen, the details of the policy you select, your neighborhood and your own risk profile. Typical rates are 1-3% per year of the declared value that you submit on the application.
