I'm in the begging stages of looking for an engagement ring and I need some advice.
I know for sure that my girlfriend wants a princess cut diamond so that makes it a little easier. I recently went to a local dealer and saw a Firemark Princess cut. They claim that it is the most perfectly cut princess diamond. They look awesome and they really catch my eye. Has anyone else heard of these diamonds and what are some good things and bad things with this type of diamond.

I'm not all that familiar with them. That doesn't mean all that much about the stones by the way, there are lots of brands I've never heard of at all. There are definite differences between excellent and marginal cutting and I'm all for going for the top shelf but I would be inclined to question them on what they mean by 'most perfectly cut'. This is an awfully presumptuous statement and there's a lot of competitors who will surely disagree with it. Do they have anything to back it up? 'Most perfect' according to whom and using what standard? Personally, I'm a fan of the AGS Lab 'ideal' grade for princesses cuts and several of the major brands use that as their standard. Others will use all manner of voodoo or just simply make the claim on the grounds that remarkably few customers will question it.

I've heard of them and know the cutter. They are a cutter that normally does really nice cuts on round diamonds like ideal cut. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the princess cut diamonds as of yet so far though. It would be fun to actually measure the light performance of one.

I'm going back to the Davidson and Licht tomorrow to look at the diamonds once more. I will post some information. From what I remember the firemark princess cuts they had all had GIA certs and I post those numbers. Thanks for the responses this forum is AWESOME

Aloha,
I am not a diamond expert, but I had been searching for a ring for my GF for almost 9 months. I went to all these chain stores and they all sucked in my opinion. I searched at least 3-5 different stores per week! Thats a lot of diamond lookin! I knew I had to get the most PERFECT stone I could get so I held off. When I finally went to a smaller mom n pop type store, it was AWESOME. It wasnt tricky lighting or anything on these diamonds. I went home and tried to research it before I made my choice, but couldnt find out much. I decided that this may be the one.. on a Saturday I took half the day, went to check out 'my top 5' choices at other stores and ended it by looking at the Firemark... It blew them all away! Even the other flashy named rocks couldnt compare with the Firemark (ie-Hearts on Fire, Hearts and Arrows, Cupids Choice, blah blah)
Needless to say, I chose the FireMark, and my GF is now my Fiance! In my personal opinion, You cant go wrong on the Firemark. Its been 5 months, and its still as shiney & brilliant as the day I got it. People are for sure WOWED,a dn that makes me look like a stud. :-)
Id be glad to show you the certificates that come with it if you drop me an email. It has the light return test and all that stuff too.
Best of luck in your search.

Im pondering jewellry for my lady and have heard that diamonds pose ethical problems and I onlu have a very superficial knowledge of the issue.. can anyone here elaborate or explain if there is a more ethical alternative ?
What are your alternatives? How about a gold band made from 100% recycled metal? How about sapphires or other gemstones mined by small scale indigenous miners in poor countries and sold through co-op type stores?
