I have an alexandrite ring that was given to me about 35 years ago. Is there a way to tell if it's real or not? Is it something a jewler can look at and tell easily?

Any capable gemologist can tell you with a few simple tests. Lots of jewelers have one on the staff who should be able to do it while you wait. Fees for this will vary quite a bit but I wouldn't expect it to be over $25 at even the fairly expensive places. At a lot of places it'll be free.
