I have three round diamonds here that I am looking at and all are GIA Certified. I want to know is it worth it to spend an extra $400 for a E color. Or should I spend an extra $200 for a better cut. Here are the specs for the diamonds and my question is which going to be the best buy? Make sure you note the cuts and color and price.

Diamond 1
$2860
Carat: .72 CT
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Very Good

Clarity Characteristics: Feather Finish
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent

Diamond 2
$2400
Carat: .71 CT
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent

Clarity Characteristics: Feather Finish
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good

Diamond 3
$2607
Carat: .72 CT
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent

Clarity Characteristics: Cloud, Feather Finish
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good

I"m guessing from the way that you phrased the question that you se #3 as a better cut than #2. Why?

You mentioned that you have the stones. Can you see a difference when you look at them in the same light?

No I don't have the stones. I meant to say I have three stones I am considering. All I can see is the GIA Grading Reports. Just off of those, what do you recommend and why? Is there a big difference between an EXCELLENT cut grade and a VERY GOOD?

You've listed both #2 and #3 as a cut grade of 'excellent' but consider #3 to be a better cut. Why?

Well I guess its between diamond #1 and #2 now that I look at it. I didn't know why that one diamond was $200 cheaper with a better cut when everything else is pretty much the same.

What was your first and second choices out of those diamonds and why?

I don't have anything like enough information and I don't give either grading or value opinions on stones that I haven't seen so that doesn't leave much I can tell you in the way of a preference.

As a general rule, GIA-Excellent is a proportion set that's more popular than GIA-Very Good and they do generally sell for a slight premium for this reason. I say go with the prettiest.

Do all three diamonds come from the same source? If not, differences in cost structures between vendors could easily explain the price difference you are seeing.

Is your goal to get the rolls royce triple ex from GIA? A couple bucks for the highest grading overall is worthy in my book.

For example:

.72ct E VS1 (not VS2), Triple Ex, 5.82x5.86x3.53 60.5/59 for $3100.

or

.72ct F VS2 triple ex, 61.3/54 5.76x5.80x3.54 for $2650

Or save yourself a couple bucks and get "vg's". Then we can analyze the crown and pavilion and see how the Cut models out there rate the diamonds I've suggested, but I'm sure they are killer!
