Hello - I am thinking about buying an engagement ring from Tiffany. Do they really use excellent stones. I understand that they charge you some premium for their brand name but do they at least use good stones???

Education, Education. Tiffany's will sell high and low quality stones. The best thing to do is look at the stones and get all the details, Carat, Color, Clarity, Cut, Table, Depth, etc.. then comparison shop.
I don't think you'll find any Brick and Mortar Jewelry store that can match the prices on the internet. (in addtion to the Sales Tax savings) Mall space and overall overhead is to high. As I mentioned to a previous post, you can check our inventory at Venciediamonds.com and compare our quality and prices. Our vendors provide us with over 10,000 diamonds and we only post the top quality stones, which is around 650.
Once again, get Educated before you buy, even from Tiffany. Don't just assume that you'll get a high quality stone just because of the name.

Tiffany's carries various qualities of diamonds. To compare what you are acutally getting you need to know:
If the diamond has a GIA or AGS lab report, what the proportions of the diamond are such as:
Table percentage
Depth percentage
Crown Height
Crown angle
Pavilion depth
Pavilion angle
girdle
fluorescence
Armed with this information you can make a more informed choice. It would also help if you can get a light performance analysis on the diamond to see how well it performs with white light which is brilliance, colored light which is disperision and scintillation which is movement of light. This test will tell you how the diamond performs. Sometime the numbers can be confusing and I have at times had stones with great numbers that didn't perform all that well. That is why we use this test.

Thank you for your reply. I am interested in their Lucida ring. It is a new cut and I have nothing to compare it with! I heard that it's a combination of step-cut and brilliant cut. so, should I compared the numbers with these cuts???

The lucida cut diamond can be bought only from Tiffany's. We do carry the mounting from the same manufacture and have set princess and radiant cut diamonds in it. I've had many satisfied customers with it.
