I am hoping to get an engagement ring soon but I am a complete novice and even studying the various guides doesn't really help me as my aesthetic sense for jewelry is pretty limited. I have no idea what quality to trade in favour of another.
My hope is just to buy the diamond and have it in a plain (tiffany?) setting for the proposal and then perhaps go choose/design the ring together.
I live in Santa Monica, CA.
So given that the advice I get is going to be very important. Am I likely to get a better deal at a Jewelry Exchange or a small local store like Readers. Are the prices going to be that different that it's worth going to the larger store. Are the credit options likely to be better.
PS I guess I'm in the $5K market but I'm not even sure about that
