If you buy a loose diamond at one site and a ring at another, is it easy/cheap to get the diamond put on the ring? Or is it a better idea to just order them together (if you're using an online dealer)?

Lots of jewelers are in this business and it’s not generally very expensive but it will depend on both the mounting and the diamond you’ve selected. There are some liability type issues where the setter can damage the stone, the mounting or both and for this reason it’s a lot more straightforward if you get the setting labor done by the provider of at least one of the above. All things being equal, it’s best to get them all from the same source (stone, mounting, labor). The appraisal should come from a separate place.
